Lesson Design Example #1: Socrative Class
Although this lesson design is framed for Grade 9 First Nation Students, this lesson plan can be applied in any classroom level from Grades 4-12. This lesson is designed as a context starter to help set the atmosphere in the class. I would use this lesson plan to assess what students currently know. I thought it was important to provide students a platform to share their emotions and discuss the effects of colonization. Although many of our students may not be able to talk directly about their experiences in residential schools, they are still given an opportunity in this lesson design to share their parent’s experiences and how it ultimately affects them. ***To view the lesson plan, please click on the image of interest
Lesson Design Example #2: Water Advocates for Respected Countries Presentation Day
Prior to this lesson, students have been asked to research (in groups) the state of water within the respected countries in the lesson plan. This lesson plan highlights the final stage of the research process which is the presentations. As you can tell in this lesson plan, students are not only asked to present but their respective peers are held accountable as each group must provide their peers feedback (outlined in Appendix A). This lesson plan allows for students to become stewards of this land and use their voice of advocacy. ***To view the lesson plan, please click on the image of interest
