Speaking Club (March 2019 – May 2019)

During my Field II practicum experience, I volunteered my time by starting and running the Speaking Club. With the help of admin and other teachers, I gathered a few international students within the school who had a hard time wanting to speak English. I used this platform as a safe space, for the students to practice the English language and socialize with new found peers. I transformed this club into a youth initiative ran club, where students would voice their opinions and lead group activities.

My Role:

  • Provided students with a guest speaker who talked about the importance of strong and effective communication
  • Created a safe space that highlighted multiculturalism
  • Helped students with their resumes
  • Ensured that students were speaking English rather than their native language
  • Prepared an itinerary of activities for students to choose from upon their arrival
